Fall Devotionals

The following are some simple devotionals that you can do this Fall.

  • DAY 1

    1. Read Psalm 100.

    2. What stands out the most to you from this Psalm?

    3. The last verse teaches us that God is “good.” What does it mean that God is GOOD? Why is this important?

    4. The writer tells the readers to “enter his gates with thanksgiving.” Write down fivethings you are thankful to God for. Close by praying and thanking God for those things.

    DAY 2

    1. Read Psalm 96:1-6.

    2. The writer says to sing a new song to God. What’s a song you love to sing to God? Why?

    3. In verse 4, it says that God is great and is highly praised. What does it mean that God is GREAT?

    4. Write down 3 reasons God is great and close in prayer and thank Him for it.

    DAY 3

    1. Read Psalm 101:1-4.

    2. David is writing this Psalm and talks about God’s faithful love in verse 1. How has God been faithful in his love towards you?

    3. David says in verse 2 that he is paying attention to the way of integrity. What are some things you need to stop doing so you can honor God more with your life?

    4. Pray today and ask God to help you live in a way that honors Him. Confess any sin to Him and ask Him to help you to live in a godly way this week.

    DAY 4

    1. Read Psalm 105:1-5.

    2. In verse 3 it tells us to HONOR His holy name. This word HONOR here in the Hebrew means to “continuously praise.” What’s a way we can honor God or continuously praise Him this week?

    3. In verse 5 it tells us to remember the wondrous works of God. The people who first received this Psalm would have thought about God’s works for Israel most likely from the first five books of the Bible. What’s a few of your favorite stories of God’s powerful works from Genesis or Exodus? (Hint: If you can’t think of any, read the rest of the Psalm)

    4. Close in prayer today thanking God for His wondrous works. He is good and does good and is to be continuously praised!

    DAY 5

    1. Read Psalm 25

    2. What do v. 4-7 teach us about where our focus should be when we are in times of trouble?

    3. What do v. 8-10 teach us about God’s character, and how he deals with sinners who want to led by Him?

    4. What do v. 16-21 teach us about how to approach to God in suffering?

    5. Close by thanking God for His faithful love and goodness even when you sin. Ask Him to teach you how to walk humbly and pursue righteousness even in the midst of fear, doubt, and suffering.

  • DAY 1

    1. Read Proverbs 1:1-7.

    2. Solomon (King David’s son) was the wisest person on the planet when he wrote these words due to God gifting Him with great wisdom (1 Kings 3:1-15). Biblical wisdom refers to knowing what is wrong, right, and how to deal with situations and people in a godly way. Why is this kind of wisdom helpful for our lives?

    3. Some Bible scholars believe that verse 7 is the key to understanding the book of Proverbs. Why is “fearing God” key to gaining spiritual knowledge or wisdom?

    4. Do you have a healthy fear or respect of God right now? If not, spend some time praying and asking God to help you have the right amount of respect and awe of God. Without this, we won’t live wise lives.

    DAY 2

    1. Read Proverbs 2:6-10.

    2. Where does Solomon tell us wisdom come from?

    3. How does God help us to have wisdom?

    4. What is a practical benefit to living a wise life?

    5. Ask God to give you wisdom like Solomon so you can live a life that honors Him.

    DAY 3

    1. Read Proverbs 3:5-7.

    2. How do you choose to trust in, or rely on God?

    3. What will happen if you live a life where you rely on God?

    4. Why shouldn’t we be “wise in our eyes?” Why aren’t we as wise or wiser than God?

    5. Close in prayer today asking God to help you believe that you aren’t wise without God and God has the wisdom that we need. Pride kills spiritual growth. Humility is the fertile soil your heart needs to become more like Jesus.

    DAY 4

    1. Read Proverbs 6:16-19.

    2. Solomon is saying that God hates several things such as arrogance, lying, unnecessary violence, and when people stir up trouble among other believers. Which of these are you the most drawn to do sometimes? Why?

    3. Why does God want us to tell the truth?

    4. Why doesn’t God want us to stir up trouble for other people?

    5. Ask God to help you fight against the desires you have to do things that don’t honor Him. Ask Him to help you to sin less and to not love things that aren’t good.

    DAY 5

    1. Read Proverbs 13:20.

    2. What does Solomon mean when he uses the word “wise?” How are some wise people in your life?

    3. When you spend time with wise people does it help you become more wise? How?

    4. Have you ever spent time with people who weren’t living for God and you desired to sin more? How can you limit that without being rude to people who aren’t living for God?

    5. Ask God to bring wise friends into your life that will help you grow in wisdom. Ask God to help you be wise and help others live for God. Ask Him to show you how to do that.

  • DAY 1

    1. Read Psalm 8.

    2. When you think about creation, does it ever make you want to praise God? If so, what is it that you see (sunset, mountains, ocean, etc) that moves you to worship God?

    3. When you consider how great God is, does what David writes in verse 4 resonate with you?

    4. How is what David writes in verse 5-8 teach us about why we are different than the rest of creation?

    5. As a person made in the image of the Creator, how can you live this week in a way that you can bring Him glory? Close by asking God to help you do just that.

    DAY 2

    1. Read Psalm 1.

    2. How does not living like the “wicked” make us more happy?

    3. What’s something we can do practically to help us stay focused on God and not live like people who don’t know Him?

    4. By our own efforts none of us is truly righteous. How can be considered righteous in God’s eyes now?

    5. How is it possible for us to live a life of righteousness now we have been born again? Close by thanking God for giving you His Spirit and ask Him to help you walk by the Spirit and not by the flesh this week.

    DAY 3

    1. Before you read today’s Psalm, think about the God of the Universe being your Shepherd. What does that mean? How does He do that?

    2. Read Psalm 23.

    3. What’s a way God has provided for you recently?

    4. What’s something God is leading you to do that isn’t easy for you to do? How will you choose to obey Him anyway?

    5. David mentions dwelling in the house of the Lord as long as he lives. Take a moment to consider what that will be like for all eternity. What will be some of the best parts of dwelling in God’s presence forever? Close by thanking God that He is preparing a place for us for all eternity.

    DAY 4

    1. Read Psalm 63.

    2. What’s a recent time when you were “seeking God” or desiring to be in His presence? How does it make you feel to focus on God?

    3. How can you glorify God with your lips like David mentions in verse 3?

    4. Have you ever had a moment in your life where you felt like David when he says “your right hand holds on to me?” If so, when?

    5. Close by thanking God for being someone who is able to satisfy your soul and ask Him to help you focus on Him instead of being distracted by other things that don’t satisfy like Him.

    DAY 5

    1. Read Psalm 75.

    2. “Wondrous works” in verse one could refer to God’s creative work or his saving work. How could you tell someone about God’s greatness through His creation? How could you tell you someone about God’s goodness in that He has saved you and others?

    3. Asaph writes in verse 9 that he will “sing praise” to God. Why does God want us to praise Him?

    4. What are some of your favorite songs to sing to God? Why do they resonate with you?

    5. Pray for people in your life that don’t know God and ask for them to be saved. Reach out to someone this week and share the gospel with them or invite them to church.

  • DAY 1

    1. Read Psalm 119:1-16.

    2. How is v. 1-8 similar to Psalm 1? Why would God have someone write something so similar multiple times in the Bible?

    3. Verses 9-16 really drive home the point that if we know God’s Word and do what it says it will keep us from sin. Why is that true?

    4. The Psalmist says that he “meditates” on his precepts and thinks about His ways. How do you keep God’s word on your mind and in your heart as you go throughout your day?

    5. Ask God to help you increase your hunger for His Word and ultimately for Him.

    DAY 2

    1. Read Psalm 119:41-48.

    2. In what ways is God’s love for us “faithful?” How is our love for God not always faithful?

    3. Verses 45-46 speak to being bold in our faith. What areas of your life do you struggle to be bold in your faith?

    4. The Psalmist seems to “love God’s commands.” Are there commands of God you don’t love if you are being honest? If so, why? What does this tell you about how you view God and yourself?

    5. Close today by asking God to help you grow in your faithfulness to Him as He is always faithful to us.

    DAY 3

    1. Read Psalm 119:73-80.

    2. What comes to your mind when you consider that God made and formed you?

    3. Read an extra verse today. Check out Ephesians 2:10. How does that verse and Psalm 119:73 tell you about your purpose?

    4. Why is arrogance or pride such a huge problem for people trying to live for God?

    5. Ask God to help you walk in the purposes that He has prepared for you and created you for this week.

    DAY 4

    1. Read Psalm 119:89-96.

    2. Verse 89 teaches us that God’s Word is forever. How is that God’s Word is true and effective in every generation no matter how intelligent we become as people?

    3. How is that God gives us life NOW and not just later like the Psalmist mentions in verse 93?

    4. Do you remember the moment you prayed something similar to verse 94? How did you feel when you asked God to save you?

    5. Thank God for saving you today. Thank Him for giving you life now and for all eternity.

    DAY 5

    1. Read Psalm 119:105-112.

    2. How is God’s Word been a “lamp to your feet” in your life?

    3. The writer seems distressed but seems to find “life” from God’s Word. How can God minister to you in times of stress?

    4. Are there commands/statutes from the Word that you are struggling to be resolved to obey? (hint: It’s the ones you aren’t currently obeying if any come to mind) Why do you want to disobey God’s Word sometimes?

    5. Ask God to help you to fix your eyes on Him and His word this week. Ask God to help you to run to Him instead of away from Him when you are tempted to sin.
